Ken Whisenhunt has made a huge impact on the San Diego Chargers offense. He’s got Rivers and the offense working well. Well enough to be playing against Peyton Manning and the Broncos. But his future is bright and well. Whisenhunt already making it to one super bowl with those Wild Card Cardinals vs his former employer Pittsburgh Steelers where he came within one play of winning the Super Bowl.
When you start like that at a franchise that has not experienced winning the wait can be terrible. After that trip to the Super Bowl the Cardinals had 3 straight losing seasons and eventually Whisenhunt was fired. Every season can change but for Whisenhunt he’s got a decision to make. Teams have been interviewing him and the team that has the most chance of making the playoffs immediately are the Detroit Lions. They’ve got a team with enough players now to win it all. The Titans seem to be always good but just not good enough to make the playoffs. Cleveland isn’t a place anyone has had success he already coached there as a position coach and finally Minnesota a conference that is competitive but I don’t think Whisenhunt will end up there.
I think he’ll choose Detroit. Just because of the talent already assembled. He did take the Arizona job and had great success early. But the choose doesn’t only have the team to look at for him. He’s got to look at the help he’s going to get. The power of his position and if he’s going to be able to do what he needs to. The backing of ownership and the GM. He’s got to consider talking to the coaches that have been there in the past. They’ve heard the speech too.
Oh by the way he’s still the OC in San Diego and will have to call the game against the Denver Broncos. But win or lose Whisenhunt will be a Head Coach in 2014.
